Yolande is hit with devastating news in EastEnders after reporting evil 𝕤ex offender Clayton to the police
Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) is to be dealt a devastating blow in EastEnders next week as she finds out some shocking news about her abuser Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler).
Viewers of the BBC One soap watched in horror as the sinister church leader sexually abused Yolande in a store room at the community centre, and after realising that little action was being taken against him, she made the brave decision to report his actions to the police earlier this week.
It was sparked after he placed his hand around her waist during the baptism of Chelsea Fox’s (Zaraah Abrahams) son Jordan.
Following the service, she rushed out of the church and ran for the station, with the rest of the family soon becoming aware of what happened.
Yolande has bravely spoken up
The conclusion to finally report him seemed to be inspired by an earlier conversation about bravery with Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris), who had her own difficult moment after having to attend brother Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) funeral.
Building up the courage, she walked up to the reception desk and told the officer that she wanted to report her sexual assault.
During Thursday’s episode, we saw the police arrive in Albert Square to arrest him.
Whilst we’re hopeful that Clayton finally gets his comeuppance, you may remember that we previously saw a string of flashbacks showing similar offences on his former parishioners over the years – and due to their lack of confidence in the justice system, or for fear of his further actions, he continued to evade any form of punishment.
In upcoming scenes, Yolande gets word that the police want to speak with her about her claims, with Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) worrying about her.
DS Page deals a devastating blow when he reveals that there isn’t enough evidence to charge him.
The whole family are reeling from the news, wondering what their next action will be when Levi (Mark Akintimehin), another church official who previously said he would help, arrives with some news.
He explains that he’s done some digging and found a woman named Delia Bennett (Llewella Gideon), who previously accused the Pastor in 2016.
We’ve met Delia before – she was one of the women from the flashback sequence who reported her crime to the police who believed her, but the case was not brought to court as the Crown Prosecution Service had insufficient evidence or witnesses.
Levi asks Yolande to meet Delia and for them both to go to the police together. However, Yolande has fears that bringing the incident back up could have devastating consequences for her.
Denise and Patrick urge her to speak up, and she later tells them that she’s ready to fight and to ensure that Clayton can never do this ever again.
