Whitney Dean’s birth joy in EastEnders as Peach’s nurse delivers newborn – and another surprise

Whitney gave birth to a beautiful baby girl

This article contains spoilers from Thursday’s (May 16) EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

Whitney Dean’s (Shona McGarty) dreams finally came true in recent EastEnders scenes when she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Things were looking worrying when Whitney’s waters broke while she was trapped in Bianca Jackson’s (Patsy Palmer) van with Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa).

Thankfully, Lauren was able to raise the alarm, and soon Bianca, Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) and Britney Wainwright (Lola Campbell) had all rushed to help.

After arriving at the hospital, Whitney was introduced to her midwife, and was shocked to discover that it was Lynsey – the same nurse who had delivered Peach last year.

Viewers will know that Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) fell pregnant in 2022, but were later devastated to learn that their baby had Edwards’ syndrome, meaning that she would be unlikely to survive past birth.

Because of this, the parents made the difficult decision to terminate their pregnancy, with Lynsey later helping Whitney to give birth.

As Whitney struggled with her grief, Lynsey opened up about her own experience of losing a child.

Coming face to face with Lynsey again left Whitney feeling understandably uneasy, though it didn’t slip her notice that Lynsey had some happy news: She too was pregnant.

Lynsey did everything she could to assure Whitney that things were going to be okay this time, though Whitney was terrified that history would repeat itself.

Thankfully, Whitney’s birth went without a hitch, and soon she was holding her newborn daughter.

Both Whitney and Zack were thrilled with their little bundle of joy, and wasted no time in introducing her to the rest of the family as Dolly Dean-Hudson.

However, unbeknown to Whitney, Dolly’s birth wasn’t completely drama free, as Zack and best friend Lauren were hiding a huge secret.

After a fight with Whitney several weeks ago, Zack and Lauren ended up sleeping together, and have been hiding it ever since.

As they discussed their betrayal outside the hospital room, they agreed that Whitney should never know – though the decision would soon be taken out of their hands.

Lauren was horrified to realise that Britney had overheard everything, and Zack was quick to chase her into Whitney’s hospital room.

Though Britney kept quiet in front of Whitney as they took family photos, it won’t be long until everything comes crashing down for this happy family…
