Rita Simons addresses EastEnders return as Roxy Mitchell despite tragic onscreen 𝕕eath

Former EastEnders star Rita Simons shed light on a potential comeback

Former EastEnders icon Rita Simons revealed whether she sees her soap character returning to Albert Square.

The 47-year-old actress’ character Roxy Mitchell and sister Ronnie ( Samantha Womack) met their tragic end just hours after Ronnie and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) were married.

After Roxy suffered a cardiac arrest when she hit the water in a hotel pool, Ronnie jumped in to save her, and drowned after she was weighed down by her wedding dress.

Ronnie and Roxy’s death proved controversial, with some fans claiming to have stopped watching the soap as a result – and Rita Simons revealing that she had even been sent scripts viewers have written featuring believable ways to bring her back.

Former EastEnders star Rita Simons shed light on a potential comeback

Speaking on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, Rita poked fun at a potential return to the soap.

She said: ‘Listen, [there] was Dirty Den’s return, Michelle as Cindy…I think in soap when you get asked to go in a coffin, you say no. I did!

‘The thing is we’re at Hollyoaks now and I have to say, it’s gorgeous, it’s like coming home but just up north. I know how soap works, I know the system. I’m so comfortable there. So, for now, I love where I am.’

Rita has recently joined the cast of Hollyoaks – but that isn’t her only new project, as she is set to star in the upcoming reality show Drama Queens on ITVBe.

Shew has joined a whole host of other soap stars – including Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon and Brooke Vincent – for the upcoming programme, which charts the day to day world of actresses in continuing drama.

‘There are nine of us girls, ladies, women who work on soaps up north – so Corrie, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale,’ Rita exclusively explained to Metro.co.uk.

‘It’s basically about the eight of us and how we navigate being a mum, being a mum of youngsters or – like me – two 18 year olds.

‘Relationships, life – just how we navigate everything doing what we do, which is not a particularly normal job.’
