ITV Emmerdale tease David Metcalfe return after Matthew Wolfenden’s exit

Emmerdale have teased a potential return for David Metcalfe just weeks after he left the village.

David – played by Matthew Wolfenden – departed the village to be with his daughter Amba in London, who he shares with ex Priya Kotecha. He left after learning about his son Jacob Gallagher’s romance with his ex Victoria Sugden.

Emmerdale offered an update on David Metcalfe as Jacob finally admitted to Leyla and Pollard about his relationship with his dad’s ex Victoria

Unable to cope with all that was going on, David decided he should head away to London for some time away from the village, leaving his dad Pollard – who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s – and ex Leyla in the village.

Emmerdale issued an update on how David was doing after Pollard and Leyla finally learned of what caused him to leave the village, as Jacob and Victoria sat down to admit they were in a relationship.

Fuming, Pollard asked Jacob to contact his dad – but he said he had done so multiple times with no joy. It was then that Pollard called David from his phone, before handing it over to Jacob. When he heard Jacob on the line, he refused to speak to him and asked to speak to his dad again. Jacob handed the phone over, explaining why his dad wouldn’t speak to him.

Pollard then revealed to the others – and the viewers – that David didn’t want to come home if Jacob and Victoria were still together, before hearing Victoria shout out to him and he swiftly ended the call, refusing to speak anymore.

Jacob and Victoria’s relationship has not gone down well with both Pollard and Leyla, and will it mean that the couple are forced to split up to placate their families – and does this mean David could be back?

Speaking about his exit, Matthew Wolfenden confirmed he could return one day.

“I met my wife on the show [Charley Webb, who played Debbie Dingle], we’ve had three kids, so not only has it given me 18 years of an amazing job, it’s given me a family so to leave it, it’s been a big part of my life and the most wonderful 18 years,” he said.

Discussing the exit storyline, he added: “There is a resolution of sorts… I can’t give too much away. Victoria is the reason why he leaves the village… put it that way! He leaves because of Victoria in a way, I can’t give too much away!”
