Home and Away to air mystery illness storyline

Is there really something nefarious going on?

Home and Away is embarking on a new storyline this week Down Under, as a mystery illness starts affecting the residents of Summer Bay.

As detailed in Australia’s TV Week magazine, episodes airing this week in Australia see lifeguards John and Dana discover a washed-up container on the shore. They contact the authorities, who don’t seem concerned, so John decides to remove it.

Before that can happen, Dana manages to get the container open. The pair are hit with a foul stench before John collapses on the spot.

It’s not long before other residents start fainting as well, and John wonders if it’s connected to the container they found. If so, could it be part of some sinister scheme to take down the Bay.

John’s actor Shane Withington told the publication: “His first thoughts are for Dana, but then he’s concerned that an illness might affect the community.

“As John gets sicker, he begins to think that this disease could be the end of him.”

These scenes will air in the UK in July.

Elsewhere this week, Irene makes her return, and she’s got a house guest named Bronte in tow. Bronte says she has an autoimmune condition, and Irene has been giving her food, care, and a place to stay.

Marilyn and Leah are concerned that their friend is being taken advantage of, and it soon looks like Bronte might be out to scam her. If that does turn out to be the truth, can Irene’s friends prove it to her before she’s swindled?

Last week, the soap aired scenes focusing on a traditional Aboriginal ceremony, and viewers praised it for showcasing Indigenous culture.

Elsewhere, actor Georgie Parker has announced she is taking a break to recover from a recent surgery.
