Home and Away star Lynne McGranger discusses possible exit from soap
"It's something I've mulled over."
Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has discussed her possible exit from the soap.
In a new interview with Stellar magazine, the actor, who has played Irene Roberts for 31 years, opened up about her thoughts of leaving Summer Bay.
“It’s something I’ve mulled over, and it has been in the back of my mind for the last year or two,” she said.
Despite her considerations, McGranger went on to say that a date hasn’t been set for her possible exit, before discussing how much she’s enjoying her latest theatrical venture, The Grandparents Club.
“Certainly no date has been set [to leave], but what I love about working on The Grandparents Club and being involved in this wonderful celebration is that it’s taking me back to my roots,” she explained.
The actor is currently on temporary leave from her role as Irene so that can take some time to star in the original stage show.
The musical comedy, which is touring across Australia, showcases the important role that grandparents play in the lives of their grandchildren — with a host of hits from the ’60s and ’70s to boot.
McGranger previously confirmed she’d be taking a break from Home and Away during an appearance on Australia’s The Morning Show, where she reassured fans that Irene won’t be away from the Bay for too long.
On her role in the new theatre production, the actor teased that it will be “a way of taking the mickey out of what people perceive grandparents to be.”
“Which is, of course, old and doddery, but in fact, grandparents can be in their 40s these days, bungee jumping or climbing Everest,” she continued, adding that the show will see her “getting back to my roots, singing and dancing, interacting with the audience.”
McGranger’s temporary departure from the show follows Irene’s recent arrest for helping Dana Matheson stay on the run from the law.
After a tense court case, Irene was stunned when the magistrate confirmed that she was officially exonerated, with all charges against her being dropped.
