Mackenzie and Felicity have been called into Salt by Xander for a team meeting that neither wants to attend, but Mac at least urges Felicity to hear their employee out. Xander explains that he wants them both to be more present, as they’ve been avoiding each other – and thus the business – which has created a sick-day culture that leaves him in the lurch.
Both agree to pick up extra work that day, and they end the meeting, but for Xander nothing feels resolved. As the day wears on, tensions between the two do not improve, so Mac tries a different approach, attempting to connect with Felicity over a shared worry for Tane. This backfires spectacularly and Felicity lashes out. She even accuses Xander of taking Mackenzie’s side when she catches them in a private moment together later.
Finally, Xander has had enough and tells his bosses that they have made it impossible to work there, so he announces that he’s quitting. Felicity’s furious and he won’t return her messages or calls, but Mackenzie reckons he just needs time to cool down.
Meanwhile, Mali continues to struggle with Kirby’s lax attitude to working at Mantaray Boards. Alf is on hand to give advice on managing a team – if the skipper starts letting the crew make the rules, it’s a mutiny. When Mali does confront Kirby, including the clumsy boat metaphor, she’s again resistant to feedback and reminds him that she’s doing him a favour.
Mali points out that Kirby was at a loose end and he gave her a job, so she needs to take it seriously. Finally, he seems to have gotten through, and Kirby agrees that she won’t date students.
Elsewhere, John gives Justin his marriage certificate, finally ready weeks after they tied the knot. Ever the romantic, Justin wants to make it a special moment for Leah but is competing for her attention with the demands of the hungry film crew. She’s even short with him when he bothers her at work, until finally John accidentally spills the beans.
Feeling terrible, Leah rushes home to find a candlelit dinner awaiting her, with the marriage certificate the centrepiece. The honeymoon’s not over for them just yet.
