Home and Away Roo Stewart star shares real reason why she often takes breaks from soap
Actress Georgie Parker, who is best known for playing Roo Stwart in Home and Away has shared the reason why her character is forced to exit the Aussie drama on regular occasions
Home and Away actress Georgie Parker has shared the real reason why she often takes breaks from the popular Australian soap.
The 59-year-old was thrust into the limelight after joining the iconic soap in 2010 playing the iconic role of Roo Stewart. Her character is the daughter of legendary Alf Stewart, played by Ray Meagher, and Martha, played by actress Belinda Gibson.
But although she has quite a big role in the show, Georgie often takes time off to perform in plays and pantomimes. Previously speaking candidly to Australia’s TV Week, the star talked about how she appreciates the fact that she’s given the flexibility to do different things outside of her role.
Speaking openly to Australia’s TV week, she said: “The writers have to keep writing me out of the show so I can come and go – to do the plays and other little gigs here and there, so I don’t envy them having to do that. I think it’s important, at this time in my career, that I get to explore all the options of working with people I’ve worked with for 40 years. So I’m very grateful I get the freedom to do both.”
“I’m very happy with what the writers have managed to give Roo. She’s lived a big life, and I’ve been able to interact with different characters this year, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.” Actor Ray Meagher also used to do pantomimes in the United Kingdom. However he decided to stop doing it a few years ago, and he seems to be completely fine with his decision.
