Home and Away confirms ending of Irene Roberts’ huge storyline

She faces court next week.

Home and Away airs tense scenes for Irene Roberts on UK screens next week as she faces court following her recent arrest.

Irene prepares for a potential prison sentence as punishment for helping Dana Matheson to stay on the run from the law.

Late last year, Irene allowed Dana to keep using her home as a hideaway. Dana had gone on the run after being framed for drugs charges by a corrupt police detective.

In next week’s scenes on Channel 5, Irene arrives at court for her sentencing hearing. Her lawyer Greta warns that a tough battle lies ahead, as the magistrate is known to be a tough cookie and a real stickler for the rules.

When the proceedings get under way, Irene worries as the prosecution pushes for the maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Irene’s lawyer points out the extenuating circumstances, including that Dana was innocent, but the strict magistrate is unsympathetic and suggests calling the hearing to an early end so he can hand down a sentence.

Greta suddenly thinks on her feet, putting in a last-minute request for Irene to make a statement in her own defence.

Irene is totally unprepared for this tactic but speaks from the heart, explaining why she felt it was necessary to break the law and help Dana. She admits that she doesn’t regret supporting someone who was in need.

The following day, Irene and her loved ones nervously await the magistrate’s decision.

Irene is stunned when he delivers his verdict. Having clearly been swayed by Irene’s speech, the magistrate confirms that she’s officially exonerated and all charges have been dropped. Will Irene now be able to move on with her life after her lucky escape?

Home and Away airs these scenes on Monday, January 22 and Tuesday, January 23.
