Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson on why she could never go back

Flashback, anyone?

Anita Dobson has claimed she’s “too old” to reprise her EastEnders character Angie Watts.

Last onscreen 35 years ago, Angie was killed off in the soap in 2002 from cirrhosis of the liver, but as we all know, flashback scenes can bring anyone back from the dead.

Joining ITV talk show Lorraine this week, the actress got onto the subject of the infamous scene where Den Watts served his wife the divorce papers.

“I knew when we were filming it that it was a great scene, the relationship was really good between us,” she told stand-in presenter Louise Minchin.

“I didn’t realise the impact that we would have on the public and to this day I’m thrilled. I love the fact that everybody took the Wattses to their hearts.

“I don’t think I could [go back] at my old age, I’m too old now! Everybody nearly has gone!”

Dobson is however, back on the small screen this Christmas Day in the Doctor Who special, filling the role of Mrs Flood opposite Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord and Millie Gibson’s companion Ruby Sunday.

Weighing in on the secret to Who‘s success, the star commented: “From my point of view, [it’s] that it keeps changing.

“The fact that it keeps coming up with different ideas, different Doctors, different situations. It is moving forward with the times and with the technology, I think that is what is keeping it going.”
