Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd confronted by Charity Dingle over his behaviour towards Sarah Sudden

Charity has it out with Mack

Emmerdale acquired a new mechanic recently when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) roped his granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) into helping out at the garage.

Cars are very much a Dingle family business – Sarah’s mum Debbie (Charley Webb) is a mechanic and moved to Scotland after inheriting a garage there. Cain Dingle has run the garage in Emmerdale since taking it over from Debbie in 2009.

Despite this proud family history, Sarah was not exactly thrilled to be roped into the family business and was very sulky as she began her first shift.

Things perked up considerably for her when a handsome customer arrived at the garage. While Sarah fixed his car they flirted and Sarah started really enjoying herself – so much so that she happily volunteered for more shifts. Cain was pleased she wanted to help out.

In coming episodes Sarah is really settling into her new role. Charity (Emma Atkins) is really proud of her granddaughter for making a go of the job. However, not everyone in the family is so pleased.

Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) is ruffled when Sarah teasingly suggests that she might actually be replacing him at the garage. Mack knows that, with Cain, family will always come first. If there’s only a certain amount of work available he fears that Cain will prioritise Sarah and he will be left out of a job.

Mack has worked for Cain since last summer, after Moira (Natalie J. Robb) had to let him go from the farm because she wasn’t able to afford to pay him.

Cain agreed to take him on on a trial basis and was impressed with his skills as a mechanic. His first shift ended badly when he managed to drop an engine block on his foot and break his toe, but apart from that things have been going fairly well.

So thinking his job might be in jeopardy puts Mack in a very bad mood indeed and he takes it out on Sarah. Charity notices this and warns Mack that she won’t put up with him being negative towards Sarah.

Will he change his approach? And is he right to fear for his job?
