EMMERDALE’S Charity Dingle struggled to cope after she received life-changing family news in the wake of Harry’s death.
Charity – played by Emma Atkins – shot the villain dead on Christmas Day as she fought to save husband Mackenzie Boyd’s life.
Harry had been holding Mackenzie hostage out of revenge for his treatment of his daughter Chloe, but Charity was able to discover their whereabouts and make a bid to free Mack before he was killed.
Harry had produced a gun but Mackenzie managed to knock it from his hands and after the villain and Charity scrambled to grab it a shot was fired, before Harry fell to the ground dead.
In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, Charity was unnerved to see a newspaper article featuring an interview with Harry’s mother following his death.
Charity kept the paper in the kitchen drawer but later viewers saw her anxiously moving around the house with music blaring, before son Ryan and his girlfriend Gail found her sitting and staring into space as the songs continued.
Charity didn’t tell the pair how she was feeling, as the trio locked horns over the fact Charity had just found out she was a grandmother to Ryan’s son, Oscar.
Viewers have known for months that Ryan and Gail had had a baby when they were younger, but had given him up for adoption.
However, Oscar needed a transplant, prompting his adoptive mother to find the pair and ask for help.
Charity only discovered all this when she caught Oscar trying to steal chocolates from a van, before Gail saw her son and asked what he was doing in the village.
A confused Charity then asked: “Hang on, do you know this little scrote?”
When Gail then said Charity was Ryan’s mum, Charity continued loudly: “How does he know Ryan? Will someone just tell me who he is?”
Gail said Oscar was a son, but Charity couldn’t process the news, so Oscar added: “Gail’s my birth mum, so you’re my grandma. You’re Ryan’s mum and he’s my birth dad, so I’m your grandson.”
After making peace with Ryan and Gail later on, the end of the episode saw Charity burning the newspaper outside in the dark, while Gail could be heard saying to Ryan: “Just for a second I thought there was something more to it.
“Like something else troubling her. This Harry thing maybe?”
While Ryan reassured her his mum was coping, Charity’s face lit by the fire said differently.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one Emmerdale fan wrote: “Charity really is struggling, will be interesting too see where this goes.”
Another added: “Poor Charity, she’s obviously not coping and Mack who was there is obviously being self centred.”
A third tweeted: “Charity don’t chuck yourself on the fire #Emmerdale isn’t worth it!”
