Emmerdale star confirms new love story for Mary Goskirk

There is romance ahead for Mary Goskirk in Emmerdale, actress Louise Jameson has confirmed, and it’s safe to say that we are absolutely thrilled.

Poor Mary has been quite unlucky in love since coming out as a lesbian back in 2022.

Emotional scenes saw her pour her heart out to Kim Tate (Claire King) as she revealed her true feelings and finally revealed out loud that she was gay for the first time.

When she later began dating newcomer Faye, we were all rooting for her – but things soon took a turn.

Devastatingly, Faye turned out to be a con-artist, who scammed Mary out of thousands before targeting her with revenge porn.

Thankfully, Faye got her comeuppance when she was arrested, and Mary was able to move on.

Her luck with women unfortunately hasn’t been much better since then. For a brief time, she began to fall in love with Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), but their passion was cut short when Suzy’s ex Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) returned to the village and the pair decided to rekindle their relationship.

We just want a happy ending for Mary! (Picture: ITV)

While we’re desperate for Mary to finally get her happy ending, it seems we may soon get exactly what we want, as Louise revealed during a chat with Metro.co.uk at the Radio Times Soap Awards.

‘I know there’s a love life pending [for Mary], but I’m not quite sure who with or when. Watch this space!’ She enthused.

Consider us watching!

At the time, Mary’s coming out story had a huge impact on fans, including me, as I revealed to Louise during our chat. The reaction was something that didn’t go unnoticed by Louise, who revealed that a lot of people reached out to her.

‘I’ve had letters and messages saying, “You’ve given me the courage to come out”. When I read the scripts, I thought if we collectively could do that for one person, it’s worth doing.

‘That’s the power of a soap, I think. It’s slightly underrated as a continuing drama, but we really debate dangerous issues in a safe place.’

Hopefully, the next stage of Mary’s story has a happy ending. We’ve got our fingers crossed!
