Emmerdale spoilers: Distraught Mackenzie Boyd can’t cope after devastating loss
Will make open up?
Some weeks ago, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) made the painful decision in Emmerdale to relinquish custody of his son Reuben when Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) gave him an ultimatum – he could either have Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) or his son, but not both.
He opted for Charity, and it recently became clearer as to why – not only was he choosing love, he also thought he was doing the best for Reuben.
In a vulnerable moment, he confessed to Aaron (Danny Miller) he felt he didn’t deserve Reuben and that he deserved to be suffering with his loss.
Since Reuben was whisked away by Chloe, Mack has buried his pain in working with Aaron, skirting the law by stealing cars. When Aaron spiralled downwards rapidly, Mack threw his all into their friendship to save his friend.
Will make open up?
But now that Aaron has made up with his mum and is no longer an emotional mess, Mack has more brain space to think about what he’s lost. Reality is hitting that Reuben is never coming back.
He reassured Charity his mind is firmly on the future, and he holds no blame over her. But he also confessed he struggles to say his own son’s name due to the pain. ‘Onwards and upwards’ he said cheerfully, while dying inside.
But burying feelings never goes too well, and Mack’s are set to come flying back to the surface faster than a life jacket suddenly inflated under water.
He’s crippled by grief and has no idea what has happened to his son.
Struggling to cope with these complicated emotions, is Mack set for a breakdown?
Is there anyone he can open up to?
