Emmerdale spoilers: Devastated Mandy Dingle kicks Paddy Kirk out after he lashes out and humiliates her in public
Poor Mandy was hurt. Is this the end for Mandy and Paddy?
Emmerdale legend Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) likes nothing better than getting glammed up. The queen of leopard print is hardly ever seen without matching accessories and a fill face of makeup and her iconic style even has celebrity admirers such as Shania Twain.
So when an invitation to the vets’ ball contained the words ‘dress to impress,’ Mandy was never going to go for something subtle and under-stated.
Instead she went full 1990’s Liz Hurley with an eye-catching black dress adorned around the neck and shoulders with glittering safety pins. Sadly, Paddy (Dominic Brunt)’s reaction was not what she’d hoped for as he seemed lost for words – but not in a good way.
Mandy was already feeling a bit insecure about Paddy after he reacted oddly when he discovered that Liam (Jonny McPherson) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) had slept together. Although he tried to cover it and pretend he was fine with his ex-wife moving on, Mandy had already seen his unease.
Poor Mandy was hurt
When an obnoxious man called Jules (Wayne Cater), who insisted on calling Mandy ‘Liz,’ asked Paddy about his ‘stunner of a missus,’ poor Mandy was despondent to hear Paddy say that she was at home. He’d obviously not told Jules that he and Chas were over and he didn’t introduce Mandy as his girlfriend, seemingly ashamed of her.
Jules’s vile behaviour towards Mandy continued when he had a go about other people being able to dress appropriately for the event. His PA, Ella (Paula Lane) had had enough of his horrible behaviour and challenged him, calling him a ‘whinging scrotum’ and throwing beer over his head.
Paddy, who’d been out of the room while this was happening, returned to find a fuming beer-drenched Jules, and Mandy and Ella laughing.
He was raging, assuming that Mandy had thrown the beer at Jules. He ranted at her in front of the shocked party-goers and said she was behaving like an ‘old washer woman.’
Totally humiliated, Mandy stormed out, leaving Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Ella to point out that it hadn’t been Mandy who’d attacked Jules and he was wrong.
Back at the Dingle house, Mandy was inconsolable and wouldn’t listen to Paddy’s attempt to explain. She said she’d spent £100 on the dress ‘just to do you proud,’ but instead he’d made her feel humiliated and small. She’d been on her best behaviour even though Jules deserved a decking, she insisted.
‘I acted like this proper lady,’ she said, adding sadly, ‘And we know I’m not.
Paddy protested that he was proud to call her his girlfriend, but Mandy pointed out that he would never have treated Chas the way he just treated her, and told him to leave.
