Emmerdale spoilers: Chas Dingle breaks down in tears as breast cancer diagnosis is confirmed
Chas gets the terrible news
Chas’ (Lucy Pargeter) world has been in a spin ever since Liam (Jonny McPherson) told her he’d felt a lump in her breast when they had a canoodle, but now it’s going to come crashing down.
The moment he told her about the lump she shut down, fearing the worst despite him trying to reassure he it may be nothing. With breast cancer in her family – having lost her mum Faith to the disease – she knew deep down it was not nothing to worry about.
Chas has isolated herself since the discovery, and when she receives a call confirming her hospital appointment, she’s terrified. With no one else to tell, she pleads with Liam to accompany her. He is secretly pleased at being her sole confidante.
Once at the hospital, it doesn’t take long for her world to implode – the doctor reveals she does indeed have triple negative cancer. And just like that it feels like her life is over.
Chas gets the terrible news
After the appointment she offloads to Liam and tries to rant her way through the fear. She wears her best Chas brave face, but even she’s not good enough to hide this one.
When it gets too much, she demands that Liam leave, and once alone, finally lets herself break down.
Chas can’t bring herself to tell anyone, but she underestimates how well her loved ones know her. Paddy (Dominic Brunt) drops off Eve and immediately reads Chas like a book.
In true Chas style, she maintains a front. Lydia (Karen Blick) later also senses something is amiss, and this time Chas cracks.
Chas reveals to Lydia her diagnosis and is lightened by offloading. It’s bad news for Liam though, who’d enjoyed being Chas’ only confidante.
Fearful for her future, Chas ill-advisedly begins searching online for more information. Is Chas now on borrowed time?
