Emmerdale legend Bhasker Patel shares news of two devastating 𝔻eaths

Emmerdale’s Bhasker Patel has shared the sad news his mum has died, just two days after the death of his mother-in-law.

The actor, best known for his role as Rishi Sharma in the ITV soap, told fans on his Instagram about the sad passing.

Sharing a variety of wonderful images of his mother on the platform, Bhasker wrote alongside: ‘My wonderful Mother “Shantaben Dahyabhai Patel” 🕉️
1929 – 2024 💔💔💔💔 Miss you so much! 🙏🏽🕉️🕉️🕉️🕉️🙏🏽.’

A couple of days prior, Bhasker updated his feed with the news that Cynthia, his ‘wonderful’ mother-in-law, had also died.

‘Cynthia 1932 ~ 2024 A wonderful mother in law. 💔💔💔💔’, he wrote, while also sharing pictures of the loved relative.

Bhasker left his role as Rishi Sharma in Emmerdale last summer after playing him for 12 years.

The beloved character was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in his home, with his family believing the fall was simply a tragic accident.

However, the arrival of Rishi’s brother Amit (Anil Goutam) proved that was far from the case.

We learned later that Amit had been with Rishi when he fell, but on realising his brother was dead he fled the scene in case anyone thought he’d pushed Rishi.

Then, after a conversation with Amit and solicitor Bill, fans were left wondering if the fall happened just so the businessman could get his hands on some inheritance money.

‘I’ll miss working with the Emmerdale family, they are a great bunch to work with and I learnt a lot as well, it gives you a brilliant profile and when Rishi died, the response online made me cry!’, Bhasker told Metro.co.uk, discussing his exit from the show.

‘You realise how much people loved my character and what I did.’

Reflecting on his reaction to the news he’d leave Emmerdale, Bhasker said:

‘I thought I would stay there for a couple of years more and get a sabbatical and work elsewhere! While I was there, the ITV bosses always let me work, I did two plays and a film, a lot of other short films, a lot of radio plays and voice overs, I’ve been very lucky.’
