Emmerdale forced to axe ‘raunchy’ 𝕤ex scene in van deemed ‘inappropriate for family viewing’

Two of the show's stars shared how the scene would have originally looked

EMMERDALE actors Emma Atkins and Lawrence Robb revealed a steamy scene between their characters was axed after bosses deemed it too risqué for the soap’s timeslot.

The pair, who play on-screen lovers Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd in the ITV soap, revealed the full extent of the scene was cut for family friendly viewing hours.

Speaking on Loose Women, they spilled the beans about a saucy moment where the characters were passionate with each other in the back of a van.

Ultimately, the scene had to be reshot from a different angle while the camera zoomed out to keep the atmosphere appropriate for the soap’s timeslot.

The original version would have seen the van rocking while Charity and Mackenzie were inside.

During their Loose Women appearance, Denise Welch grilled Emma and Lawrence about the raunchy take.

She asked the actors: “You were doing a rather raunchy scene for soap opera, pre-watershed, and you were pretending to do jiggy-jigs in the back of a van. And the van was rocking so much they can’t show it?”

After Lawrence left the audiences in stitches by mimicking the jumping action from inside the van, Emma shared: “So the guy who owned the van, he was shaking it.

“We all got told to just shake the van so then we went for it. And then obviously the director came over and went, ‘compliance have said no’.

“So they had to do a huge wide shot from the field.”

Charity and Mackenzie are not the only Emmerdale characters who have been enjoying a romance.

After newcomer Ella Forster (played by former Coronation Street actress Paula Lane) arrived in the village, she struck up a relationship with local doctor Liam Cavanagh (played by Jonny McPherson).

Things were made complicated by Liam’s fling with Chas Dingle and her subsequent breast cancer diagnosis, with the GP torn between the two women.

But in the end, he ended up with Ella, even though his heart was with Chas.

Their relationship looks set to progress further after Liam makes a big decision regarding his new love interest.
