Emmerdale

Emmerdale fans baffled as major star is missing during her own key storyline

She was nowhere to be seen!

Emmerdale fans were puzzled last week as iconic character Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) failed to make an appearance at Heath Hope’s (Sebastian Dowling) funeral.

Heath died at the start of this year following a car crash. After weeks of uncertainty, we now know that Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) was driving the vehicle when the crash happened – not Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling).

Last Thursday (January 18), the village residents gathered to say goodbye to Heath.

It was an incredibly emotional episode which saw the likes of Cathy, Eric (Chris Chittell) and Bob (Tony Audenshaw) make their way down Main Street behind the funeral car – but fans couldn’t help noticing Brenda was nowhere to be seen.

Earlier on in the episode, a brief line of dialogue saw confirmation Brenda was ill, and therefore couldn’t attend the funeral, but audience members were left puzzled by the sudden change, given Brenda had been so heavily involved in the aftermath of Heath’s death.

‘Why wasn’t Brenda at the funeral she was his stepmum???’, one Twitter/X user questioned.

Echoing the confusion, another wrote: ‘Where was Brenda, how poorly to miss her sort of son’s village funeral, just up the road!’.

Brenda’s absence continued into Friday’s episode of the ITV soap, as the instalment largely focused on Charity (Emma Atkins) as well as the King family, who are now trying to navigate a way forward after Angelica confessed her secret about the car crash.

Shortly after the funeral, Angelica told Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) that she was driving during Heath’s final moments. The teenager was keeping the truth a secret but after she witnessed the start of the funeral from her bedroom window, and saw Cathy and Bob having an emotional conversation, her guilt started to increase.

Given Heath was Brenda’s stepson, it was vital she played a key part in the aftermath of his death, so the sudden disappearance last week has left many hoping she will reappear soon.
