The murder plot that began with a flash-forward clip in February of last year culminated in this year’s EastEnders Christmas Day episode.
Supporters of EastEnders think the BBC soap opera has thrown them a curveball and that Danny Walters’s recently deceased character, Keanu Taylor, is actually alive and well. After first teasing viewers in a flash-forward clip from February of this year, the long-running soap opera finally revealed which unfortunate male was killed by “the six” in scenes that aired on Christmas Day.
Supporters argue that because his death wasn’t verified in the episode, he might yet make a comeback. As millions of people tuned in to see the conclusion of the much anticipated plot, producers had one more twist.
At first, it looked as though abusive Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) was killed by Denise Branning (Diane Parish) after he was struck over the head with a bottle.
After gathering at the Queen Vic, the six characters engaged Nish in a dramatic showdown. Nish tried to grab his wife Suki by the hair as hostilities grew.
Denise hit him with a bottle as the women waded in to protect her, setting up the now-iconic flash-forward scene in which Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) checked for a pulse and pronounced him dead.
But just as fans were accepting of this, Keanu showed up to confront Sharon, who had called off their wedding and earlier admitted that he wasn’t the father of her son Albie.
Sharon was struggling to breathe when an enraged Keanu tried to choke her.
Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) took out a knife and stabbed her friend to save him. The tool protruding from the mechanic’s back left viewers with the impression that he was dead.
Many fans are not persuaded that he is truly dead despite this startling scene, and they shared their theories on X, the former name of Twitter.
“I mean they haven’t actually said Keanu is dead. Is there another twist?! #EastEnders?” wondered one user who went by the handle @bobbigeorgiee. (sic)
Not quite convinced, @H3h333law questioned: “Is Keanu really dead though? #EastEnders.
@Jordannahhh_x brought up the fact that EastEnders has misled viewers in the past. “Is Keanu truly gone, or will he just appear out of nowhere like Kathy ten years later? #EastEnders “in their post.
@monicalisten added, “Okay, okay, okay. Perhaps I’m the only one. I’m not sure. In my opinion, Keanu is still alive. Christmas Eastenders / #Eastenders.” (sic)
In a slightly perplexed tone, @tega_xo wrote: “So wait… is Keanu really dead? Despite the fact that he was filming scenes for New Years? (sic) At the same time, @Snowcookie_3 merely said, “Keanu isn’t dead.”
