EastEnders casts Eurovision hopeful Olly Alexander in surprise move

EastEnders has cast Olly Alexander for a guest appearance

EastEnders has cast Eurovision hopeful Olly Alexander in a special episode set to air ahead of the song contest in the coming weeks.

In the exciting scenes, Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) receives a visit from good friend Olly, who has been rehearsing his Eurovision performance nearby.

Olly decides to make a pit-stop in the Queen Vic, and receives a hero’s welcome from the delighted Walford locals.

His appearance isn’t the only surprise the Albert Square residents will get that night however, as one iconic character decides to get down on one knee and pop the question to their partner…

Speaking about his guest appearance, Olly said: ‘I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK. I’m so happy I got to meet some true screen legends and spend time on set with the brilliant cast and crew.

It isn’t just fans who are set to be surprised by Olly’s appearance, as he has also kept it a secret from a very close family member, despite having filmed the scenes back in March…

‘I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favourite show but I guess the cat is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it!’

‘When we discovered that Olly Alexander was a huge fan of the show and an opportunity arose in one of our stories, it was the perfect moment for us to invite him to Albert Square to appear,’ Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw explained.

‘We hope the audience enjoy Olly’s special guest-appearance as much as everyone at EastEnders enjoyed having him in Walford.’

This isn’t the Years & Years singer’s first foray into television, having starred in the critically acclaimed mini-series It’s A Sin back in 2021.

Olly is set to represent the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden with the song Dizzy, which has already been met with a positive reception from fans.

The grand final of the show is set to air live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on May 11, with Olly set to hit Albert Square on May 1.
