‘Doesn’t make sense!’ rage Emmerdale fans as they call out major funeral blunder with Brenda Walker
Despite intense scenes airing around the funeral of Heath, soap enthusiasts were left utterly bewildered by the writing of the serial drama
EMMERDALE fans were left both confused and fuming after watching a major funeral in the soap.
Bob and Viv’s son Heath Hope (played by Sebastian Dowling) sadly died in a car accident after he went joyriding in Wendy Posner’s car.
His twin sister Cathy (played by Gabrielle Dowling) stole the vehicle and the pair were also joined by Angelica King (played by Rebecca Bakes).
Although both girls escaped unharmed, Heath was killed upon impact when the car crashed into a wall.
Brenda (played by Lesley Dunlop) was like a mother figure to the character throughout the years on the soap.
Leading up to the funeral Brenda has been utterly devastated and was helping to finalise arrangements for the ceremony.
But Emmerdale fans were utterly bewildered when the dramatic scenes aired on-screen and she was nowhere to be seen.
Her notable absence was also only briefly addressed as it was stated that the character was unable to attend for illness.
They took to X – formerly known as Twitter – as they expressed confusion over the storyline.
One viewer fumed: “Where’s the continuity, Heath’s funeral and ‘Brenda’ all week being telling everyone what they should be doing and thinking Funeral day arrives and she’s not in the scenes?”
A second said: “It didn’t make sense Brenda missing funeral. She brought Heath up and has been a rock to Cathy. Eric saying she was poorly was just stupid.”
“Bit weird after all her involvement that Brenda just wasn’t at Heath’s funeral. Some s**** about being ill and that was it 🙃 #Emmerdale,” remarked a third fan.
As a fourth enquired: “Where was Brenda, how poorly to miss her sort of son’s village funeral, just up the road #Emmerdale @emmerdale.”
Whilst someone else noted: “Bizarre storyline that Brenda was to poorly to go to the funeral? And which funeral did Arthur go to? Wasn’t in the procession or church! Plus no school friends.”
And a sixth added: “How really weird no Brenda. Supposedly Ill. C*** writing after the massive part she played leading up to tonight.”
Some fans even speculated whether the excuse given for the absence related to real life circumstances.
One fan enquired: “That’s a bit weird saying Brenda can’t be at the funeral. Can only assume Lesley Dunlop was poorly in real life at the time of filming or something. What a shame. ☹️ #Emmerdale.”
And a second echoed: “I’m sorry but if the actress (Lesley Dunlop) playing Brenda was ill in real life then they should have just filmed the funeral on a different day because she would ABSOLUTELY be at her son’s funeral, sick or not. It’s a really poor choice here not having her there #Emmerdale.”
