Amelia Flanagan reveals amazing way she landed the role of April in Emmerdale
Emmerdale child star Amelia Flanagan revealed the iconic way she bagged a role on the hit ITV soap.
The April Windsor actress, 15, joined Emmerdale in 2014 and instantly became a hit among viewers – even winning three awards in the space of a year at the Inside Soap Awards and The British Soap Awards.
And it looks like Amelia has one thing to thank for her ongoing success – a banana costume.
When asked how she landed her dream role, she told OK!: ‘The director asked me if I could dress up as any character in the world, who would it be? I think everyone else said “a princess”, but I said “a banana” and I think that’s why I was chosen for the role.

‘Within six months April was wearing a banana costume in Emmerdale!’
Well, there you have it!
Amelia’s real-life sister Isabella Flanagan plays scheming Hope Stape over on Coronation Street, a show which also stars their brother William, who portrays Joseph Brown.
Talent quite clearly runs in the family!
‘It’s surreal that all three of us have ended up in soaps!,’ Amelia previously told Inside Soap. ‘I’m up against Bella for an award for the first time, and as much as I’d love to win, I really hope my sister gets it!’
Amelia said at the time that when an award ceremony takes place, she is naturally ‘Team Emmerdale’, while her siblings are ‘Team Corrie’, but admitted that it’s ‘never competitive’.
‘I’ve run lines with Bella where she’s played Hope and I’ve pretended to be a character from Coronation Street, and she’s done the same with me, so it’s fun!,’ she exclaimed.
