Emmerdale gives update on David Metcalfe as he crushes Jacob Gallagher with a shocking truth

The truth has finally come out about the romance between Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) in Emmerdale – and it’s fair to say that the news didn’t go down well among Jacob’s nearest and dearest.

With Victoria back from her Christmas trip to Portugal, and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) getting flustered because she thought Jacob was in love with her, the time was right for Jacob and Victoria to come clean about their feelings for each other. Gabby took the news quite well – mainly from sheer relief that she wasn’t the object of Jacob’s affections after all.

Telling Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Pollard (Chris Chittell) would be a tougher prospect for the couple, though. Leyla has made no secret of her dislike for Victoria (especially after Victoria almost killed Jacob), and Eric already had a lot to deal with – his Parkinson’s diagnosis, supporting Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) after the death of Heath (Sebastian Dowling), and coping with his son David (Matthew Wolfenden)’s move to London.

Leyla took the news exactly as predicted. ‘My son is seeing his dad’s ex girlfriend, who his dad is still in love with,’ she summarised. ‘Not to mention the huge age gap.’

David made his feelings clear once again

Soon Pollard realised that David had known about the affair and that’s why he went to London in the first place.

It came as a massive shock to him and he talked to Brenda about how he was feeling. She had some wise advice for him, telling him that life is too short to fall out with the people you love – and having just lost her step-son Heath, Brenda was speaking from experience.

‘Love – that’s all there is in the end,’ she said. ‘Just love.’

So Eric paid Jacob a visit, and insisted that his grandson should call David to try to make amends.

David answered Jacob’s call but wouldn’t speak to him, insisting on talking to Eric instead. Eric relayed David’s message to his grandson. He said he hates both Jacob and Victoria for what they’ve done – and then he hung up. Ouch.

Eric told Jacob that he hoped all the upset that had been caused was worth it.

It looks like it’s going to be a very long time before Jacob, Victoria and the rest of the family are sitting down for drinks in the Woolpack or family meals at the Hide together, as Leyla made it quite clear to Jacob later that she won’t accept their relationship.

Will Jacob and Victoria manage to convince everyone to give them a chance? Or will all the opposition drive them apart?
