Coronation Street newcomer Gillian Jephcott may be familiar to soap viewers for a stint in Emmerdale two decades ago.

Jephcott made her first appearance on the cobbles last week as child protection officer Caitlin, who was leading an investigation into whether Chesney Brown’s son Joseph was safe in his home.

Caitlin has had to open the mandatory investigation after Joseph’s stepmum, Gemma Winter-Brown, accidentally poisoned him with lavender oil.

However, her turn on Corrie is far from the first time Gillian Jephcott has worked in the soap world. In fact, she was the original actress who played Faith Dingle in Emmerdale.

Her version of Faith first arrived in the Dales in 2000 as the mother of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), and she made guest appearances through 2004.

The role was ultimately recast when Faith was given a full-time slot on the ITV1 soap in 2017, with Sally Dexter taking over for what has become the definitive portrayal of the character.

Dexter’s version of Faith was a part of numerous high-profile storylines until a powerful storyline saw her pass away from cancer last year.

As for Gillian Jephcott, she has a long and impressive CV with appearances in Clocking OffCutting It and Brassic.

Her current stint in Coronation Street could lead to heartbreaking scenes, as her character Caitlin recently caught Gemma violating an order not to be left alone with Joseph during the CPS investigation.

Chesney managed to pacify Caitlin with a lie about how Gemma was only left alone with Joseph for a few minutes, but the child protection officer warned the couple they’d lose their children with another violation.
