Emmerdale’s Jai stuns Laurel with nasty Ashley insult – and much worse follows
Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson)’s past actions come back to haunt him in upcoming Emmerdale episodes, as wife Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) gets close to discovering his actions in getting his father Amit (Anil Goutam) to sign over his shares in HOP – cheating Suni (Shannon Brahmdeo Ramana) out of his portion.
As Jai tries to hide the truth he lashes out at Laurel – with dramatic consequences.
After Jai discovered his biological father, Amit, had been responsible for the death of Rishi (Bhasker Patel) – the man who brought jai up and who he considers to be his dad – he wanted revenge. He got this by pushing Amit down the stairs at Holdgate, the same fate that had befallen Rishi. Amit survived the fall, but Jai held him captive until he agreed to sign over his shares.
He then told Suni that Amit had left for India, after telling him that he didn’t think Suni was capable of running a business so he hadn’t left any shares to him.
Jai spirals
Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) was an accomplice to some of this, after Amit had tried to swindle him out of his money, and it was Pollard who raised Laurel’s suspicions after refusing to pay for drinks at the Hide and told Laurel to talk to Jai about it.
In upcoming episodes there’s tension between Jai and Laurel as she urges him to tell Suni the truth, but he says he can’t face it. The argument becomes more heated and Jai feels under more and more pressure. Finally he snaps and says the worst thing he could possibly say to Laurel by insulting her late husband Ashley (John Middleton).
Emmerdale’s beloved vicar Ashley died in 2017 with Laurel by his side, when he suffered from pneumonia after several years of living with dementia.
Laurel is infuriated and upset by Jai’s cruel words and orders him out. After he’s gone, she starts to feel dizzy and collapses to the floor.
Gabby (Rosie Bentham) arrives and is terrified to find her step-mum struggling to breathe and barely able to move. Gabby calls an ambulance and then tries to call Jai, who isn’t picking up his phone.
He’s at the Hide trying to build up the courage to tell Suni the truth. He’s irritated by Gabby’s persistent calls, but when he finally answers he’s shocked to hear that Laurel has been rushed to hospital.
What’s happened to Laurel? Will she be OK?
