Moira and Cain Dingle’s disturbing showdown in Emmerdale explodes into shocking violence
Things got tense
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) woke up feeling regretful in Wednesday’s (June 19) episode of Emmerdale.
Yesterday, Moira’s emotions bubbled over as she continued to try and help Matty (Ash Palmisciano), who is behind bars after accidentally stabbing Samson Dingle (Sam Hall).
Moira and most of the village know that Matty wouldn’t hurt a fly let alone a human being. She has tried to get Samson to admit the truth but due to the fact he’s being manipulated by his horrible friend Josh, he isn’t changing his view on the situation.
After an attempt at confronting Samson failed, Moira returned to Butlers and took her anger out on Cain.
Things got tense
‘The old Cain could have taken Samson out,’ she said. ‘He always had my back. He was fearless.’ She said that everything had changed when Aaron (Danny Miller) beat Cain up at the garage earlier this year. Cain ended up in hospital after a brutal fight with Aaron, who’d been winding Cain up and stole his car.
Moira taunted Cain, saying that nobody respects him ever since Aaron beat him up. She called him a coward and weak and said he was no use to her.
This all ignored the fact that Moira implored her husband to change his ways after his son Kyle (Huey Quinn) ended up in prison for killing Al Chapman (Michael Wildman). At that point, Cain’s toxic masculinity was blamed for putting Kyle in that situation and Moira and Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) were both concerned about the effect Cain’s behaviour had on his children.
Since then he has changed quite a bit and it’s mostly for the better. As the episode demonstrated, Cain’s approach to Samson was more effective than Moira’s more violent action. But a desperate Moira wanted the old Cain back, the hard man who just had to look at someone the wrong way to have them quaking in their boots.
In tonight’s episode, Moira tried to reconnect with Cain and apologise but he wasn’t prepared to listen. Instead, he parked himself at the bar and drank – a lot.
After Moira gave up trying to say sorry to Cain, she returned to Butlers to catch up with Amy, who had returned from visiting Matty at the prison.
When a drunk Cain arrived, the confrontation between husband and wife kicked off again.
A wound up Moira then said Cain is ‘weak’ and ‘pathetic’. Stepping over the line, Moira told Cain that he ‘learnt from the best’ when it comes to being a ‘useless drunk’ and mentioned Shadrach, his abusive father.
The shocking comparison was enough for Cain to hit the door in anger. Moira then stood her ground and pushed Cain further, thinking he was very close to hitting her.
Remembering the man he is today, Cain walked away from Moira, leaving her shaken by the argument and the state their relationship is currently in.
