Linda Carter set to finally get help for her alcoholism as a concerned friend reaches out in EastEnders
A worried friend reaches out
Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) fell back into the clutches of alcoholism in recent months, following the return of rapist Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) and the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) in EastEnders.
She has been really struggling to keep the secret of what she and the rest of The Six did on Christmas Day, and has since confided in son Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff).
Johnny returned earlier this year after being called by Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who was worried about Linda’s drinking.
With Johnny by her side, Linda promised to get her drinking back under control, though this has been a difficult task.
A worried friend reaches out
In upcoming scenes, Elaine and Johnny are left concerned for Linda as Father’s Day approaches, and she begins to get emotional over Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).
Viewers will remember that Mick went missing at sea after trying to save Linda, and was presumed dead when he was never found.
In a bid to lift her spirits and take her mind off Mick, Johnny and Elaine decide to plan a Father’s Day event in the Vic.
However, Linda’s day soon takes a turn for the worse when Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) reveals that Keanu’s funeral is coming up and asks to use the Vic for the wake.
When Elaine agrees to host the event, Linda heads upstairs to drink, but is interrupted by a concerned Johnny.
Linda lies and explains that she is going to tell Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) the news, unaware that Bernie has beat her to it.
When Sharon finds out from Johnny that Linda knew, she is left shocked, though their conversation is soon interrupted by a loud clash in the barrel store, and the pair soon find Linda inside, drunk.
Linda’s son and best friend take desperate measures to try and sober her up, which leaves Sharon feeling helpless, and leads her to share a heart to heart with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).
Determined to help pull Linda through, Sharon decides to book her into an AA meeting. Will Linda be able to take the first step to recovery?
