EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy fears ‘terrible 𝕕eath’ as she addresses the end of Sonia

All good things must come to an end eventually

Natalie Cassidy, an EastEnders star and all-round icon, has spoken about the possibility of saying goodbye to the BBC One soap and her character.

Natalie has played the role of Sonia Fowler since 1993. The Walford resident has become a complete legend throughout her time in the show, best known for the storyline that saw her give birth to Bex when she was a teenager, and of course her enjoyment for playing the trumpet.

Despite the fact EastEnders wouldn’t feel like EastEnders without Sonia around, we know all good things must sadly come to an end – and so does Natalie Cassidy.

Fear not, we certainly won’t be saying goodbye to Sonia anytime soon, but that hasn’t stopped Natalie reflecting on the prospect of one day leaving Albert Square behind her.

All good things must come to an end eventually

‘One day, you know, I’m sure Sonia will end. I don’t know when, hopefully she will potter about being a nurse for a bit longer. I don’t want her to die a terrible death, I don’t want her to get run over or pushed in Walford train station’, she said during the latest episode of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Spinning Plates podcast.

‘To be honest, it’s got to evolve and characters have to come and go because otherwise it will be a very boring place. You have different people come in with different ideas.

‘Of course you’re upset if you lose a friend from somewhere but it’s the same with any job and moving on.’

She added: ‘Genuinely, it’s not a joke, every contract that comes round for me in my head I think, “Oh, I’m going then”. I have to think, “Oh I’m going to be leaving then” because I could be gone, definitely gone.’

Away from the BBC One soap, Natalie Cassidy is busy being the ultimate hun hosting her own podcast, Life With Nat.

The new show had overnight success, with Natalie taking to Instagram to share her excitement over it being number 1 in the podcast charts.

‘I’m number one!’ She said in disbelief. ‘It’s ridiculous. I’m number one in the podcast chart.

‘Thank you so much for listening. This is going to be fun, honestly. We’re going to have a right laugh. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m speechless for once!’

In recent weeks, Natalie’s character Sonia Fowler shared the wonderful news she is pregnant with Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) baby, after the couple took part in multiple rounds of IVF.
