Marlon stuns Rhona to silence as he makes it clear where they stand after shock Emmerdale exit

Things are getting difficult

To say Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) is angry with Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) in Emmerdale feels like a bit of an understatement.

This week, Rhona returned to court as part of Gus’ (Alan McKenna) trial. He was in the stand after committing fraud and stealing Rhona’s embryos.

At first, Gus hoped that the statement Rhona had agreed to make would ensure he got a lighter sentence. In return he’d agreed to sign over guardianship of his daughter Ivy to Rhona while he was in prison.

In court Rhona started to read the prepared statement, but soon faltered over the words. ‘This isn’t true,’ she told the judge. Gus’s defence attempted to delay proceedings while Rhona produced a new statement, but the judge asked if she wanted to speak now and Rhona said she did.

What came next was a description of what had happened since Gus first appeared asking to use the embryos that Rhona had assumed had been destroyed. She said she’d been ‘too shocked to object,’ but then changed her mind. Gus had gone ahead and stole her identity to be able to use the embryos, which made Rhona feel ‘violated.’

Gus was looking more and more upset as this went on as he realised that Rhona’s presence in the court was having the opposite effect to what he’d hoped for. Marlon, sitting behind him, was also looking concerned.

The new father was told he would spend the best part of 10 years behind bars for the crime. As Gus was led away, realisation hit Rhona that she finally had what she wanted.

But it came at a massive cost.

Tonight’s (April 25) episode of the ITV soap highlighted the strain this entire ordeal had put on Marlon and Rhona’s marriage.

Rhona felt that Marlon was behaving in a difficult and distant way to punish her. Marlon made it clear that the main thing he was furious about was Rhona’s ability to lie and look at things from an incredibly selfish perspective. He said that the deal with Gus was important but once again, she had thought only about what she wanted, and failed to consider those around her.

The arguing and clashing between Rhona and Marlon then started to have a negative impact on Leo (Harvey Rogerson). After school, he refused to get off the bus because the lack of noise made him feel calm – something that certainly wasn’t happening at home.

Marlon promised Leo that the arguing would stop from now on and he got off the bus. That evening though, Marlon made it clear to Rhona they were not back on the same page.

With little Ivy’s cries in the background, Marlon told Rhona that he doesn’t want to share a bed with her at the moment.

Rhona was devastated but again, Marlon told her this latest move is just as a result of her outrageous actions a few days ago.

After months of stress, lies and a great deal of betrayal, will things ever be the same for Marlon and Rhona?

Can they get back on track?
