EastEnders ‘confirms’ justice as Pastor Clayton ‘seals’ his downfall in throwaway scene
Pastor Clayton’s time is running out
If Pastor Clayton’s (Howard Saddler) theory about the truth is to be believed in EastEnders then it’s just a matter of time before the violent sex attacker gets his comeuppance.
The pastor, as viewers know, sexually assaulted Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) last week, locking her in the storeroom while at a fundraising charity auction, which was organised by Yolande herself.
The incident has left Yolande devastated and, despite telling Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) that she wants to be keep it to herself, it’s clear that the ordeal is having an impact on her mental health.
Pastor Clayton, meanwhile, has been swanning around the Square like he’s done nothing wrong and in Wednesday’s (April 24) edition of the BBC One soap – which can now be streamed on iPlayer – he played the role of the kind-hearted community man as he bought Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) a drink.
Pastor Clayton’s time is running out
Stacey was grateful, with the subject of the conversation soon turning to Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo), who is currently in prison for the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).
Dean wanted daughter Jade Masood (Elizabeth Green) to come visit him in prison but Stacey advised against it, fearful that he would profess his innocence in regards to murdering Keanu.
As viewers know, Dean is a vile rapist and a liar, though he is actually innocent of this particular crime, with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) having killed the mechanic at Christmas time in a bid to protect Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).
A number of Walford’s women – Stacey included – covered up the crime to protect Linda, with Stacey then planting the murder weapon on Dean so that he could finally go to prison, having evaded justice for a decade.
Pastor Clayton, however, reckons that the truth – like it always does – will come out.
‘I’ve worked with many prisoners and yes while one or two monstrous types can maintain the lie, the pressures of incarceration can break most normal men so the truth will usually out,’ he said.
If we’re to believe the pastor’s words then he himself will be facing the music over his crimes too. Stacey clapped back at his claims, telling him that Dean is a ‘monster’ and that he’ll ‘never admit it’, which seemingly left the sex abuser – who has abused a number of women across several decades – shaken.
Too close to home, perhaps?
We know from soap history that vile abusers always get their comeuppance, so – much like Clayton said – the truth will out. It’s just a matter of time.
