Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) had some exciting news in Emmerdale recently. His application for a six week placement in Berlin had been successful.
In Tuesday (April 16)’s episode Liam (Jonny McPherson) was offering his warm congratulations to the young medical student. ‘You’re going to have the most amazing time,’ he promised.
Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) came out of the house at that point and overheard the last bit of the conversation. She wanted to know what the amazing time they were talking about was. Jacob pretended they’d been talking about studying for exams.
Victoria didn’t exactly believe that so she took the opportunity to grill Liam for more information.
Jacob hadn’t told Victoria
Liam is never a great liar, though he did have a decent crack at pretending they’d been talking about an exciting lecture about respiratory care. Eventually he admitted they’d been talking about Jacob’s placement – and he soon realised that Victoria knew nothing about it.
She was shocked that Jacob hadn’t said anything and questioned him about it later. He said there was no point telling her, because he wasn’t going to go. This obviously puzzled Victoria, who pointed out that it was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Jacob said he wanted to continue his training somewhere nearby and that way he wouldn’t have to leave her.
‘It’s only six weeks. You can cope without me for six weeks,’ she reasoned. He replied that he was sure he didn’t want to go.
‘I never want to leave you, Vic,’ he said. They hugged, but Victoria looked troubled. Jacob has already given up a lot for her, as their relationship caused a permanent rift between him and his dad David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden).
David and Victoria were previously together for a long time but their relationship fell apart after David lied about a speeding ticket and told the authorities that Victoria had been driving the car.
Despite this David never gave up hope of winning Victoria back, so he was devastated to discover that she’d been secretly seeing his son Jacob behind his back.
He couldn’t cope with the situation and headed for London to see his daughter Amba. Recently Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) heard that David is planning to stay in London for good.
So for Victoria, hearing that Jacob is intent on missing out on what could be a great career and life opportunity just to stay with her must come with a huge dollop of guilt.
Will she try to persuade Jacob to take the placement after all? Could this whole situation threaten their future as a couple?
