EastEnders fuels new relationship theory – just days after major character exit
Could a relationship be on the cards?
EastEnders have sent fans into a frenzy following theories that Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) are to be Walford’s hottest new couple.
The two characters have shared quite a few scenes together since Johnny returned to Albert Square earlier this year.
Finding that his mum Linda (Kellie Bright) had fallen off the wagon again, he assumed that rapist Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) presence in her life was the reason for her breakdown.
After launching himself towards him at Beale’s Eels, old pal Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) had to hold him back and the two, alongside Ben’s husband Callum, conspired to get revenge.
Could a relationship be on the cards?
Ultimately, their plan was botched, and Johnny had moved on after learning the real reason his mum hit the bottle was because she had killed Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, Callum has been left heartbroken as Ben was extradited to the US for committing fraud.
Could the two men be looking for a shoulder to cry on amid their woes?
See ya Ballum, hello Jallum!
In an Instagram post yesterday (10th April), the BBC soap teased that the two may be getting closer in upcoming scenes, or at least keeping something secret!
‘What’s going on here?!’ they wrote to their 791,000 followers, alongside a pic of Tony and Charlie (who has his finger over his lips) in the Queen Vic.
The social media update has had a strong reaction from fans, who have cried out for the relationship not to happen.
‘Please don’t put them together. Show that gay men can just be friends’ cried one.
‘Callum & Johnny relationship pending’ teased an EE fan page.
Another added: ‘I’m sorry but #Ballum always. Missing Ballum and just Ben [in] general.’
Dividing opinion, one viewer commented: ‘Much better suited… if they are going to get together. Ben who?’
Some have questioned the morality of the coupling, as Callum looked up to Johnny’s dad Mick (Danny Dyer) as his own father.
‘Callum [is] more like Johnny’s brother considering how he considered Mick a dad.’
‘They’re basically related so I’m sure it’s nothing..?’ questioned another.
‘No that’s not right. Callum loves Ben and sincere feelings don’t change that quickly. Otherwise the story is very fickle and false and that’s not the impression their relationship was giving us. Callum has more integrity.’
