Emmerdale spoilers – Chas Dingle is shattered as the truth of Aaron’s cancer battle is revealed

Chas looks for the truth

Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) biggest fear since learning she has cancer isn’t that she may die, it’s that she’s passed the gene on to her loved ones – namely Aaron (Danny Miller).

She pressured Aaron into getting tested for the faulty cancer gene and to his horror, he learned that he does in fact have it.

But when it came to telling Chas about it, looking at her broken and in pain following her double mastectomy, and not being ready to face it himself, Aaron choked and told her he’s fine.

That lie is now about to bite him on the bum as fragile Chas learns the truth of his own cancer battle.

Liam (Jonny McPherson) is trying hard to keep Aaron’s secret despite Chas’ unrelenting questions and bull-dog approach. When he spots the opportunity to escape her interrogation he does so, but not without inadvertently implying something worrying to Chas.

Taking matters into her own hands, Chas asks Aaron directly about his outcome of the gene test. Unfortunately for him, his usual resting bitch face slips and betrays him. A tiny flicker in his eyes tells Chas all she needs to know.

But now the secret is out, something is triggered in Aaron. Unable to temper his emotions, he is flooded with anger and denial. In typical Aaron style he looks for someone to take it all out on, and lands on Liam.

The result is pure violence, with Liam left in a bad way. Chas is distressed to see the GP sporting some nasty injuries, and tentatively asks if Aaron is to blame.

Liam can’t help but offer the truth, but desperately tries to stop her from going straight to her son. She and Liam share a moment as he magnanimously encourages her to take a supportive approach.

Against all odds, the approach works. Chas manages to pierce Aaron’s yobbish outer shell and he finally confesses his fears – that the faulty gene feels like a death sentence. Has his own cancer battle just begun?
