Emmerdale spoilers – Ella Forster reels as Liam Cavanagh freaks her out with ‘creepy’ revelation
Liam and Ella went on another date
As soon as Ella Forster (Paula Lane) started work as a receptionist at Emmerdale’s Brook Cottage Surgery, she caught the eye of Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). Her sparky but kind personality soon brought out Liam’s flirtatious side as they bonded over a shared love of houseplants.
It wasn’t long before Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) spotted that something might be brewing between her colleagues and she called a staff meeting to try to reinforce appropriate behaviour in the workplace.
What she didn’t want was a re-run of Liam’s affair with nurse Wendy (Susan Cookson). This had led to all sorts of unhygienic stuff going on in the surgery and the emotional fallout directly led to Wendy’s partner Bob (Tony Audenshaw) having a heart attack.
Liam and Ella went on another date
Despite Manpreet’s warnings, Liam and Ella have previously shared a kiss, and there’s undeniable chemistry between them. They decided to meet for a date.
Liam was nervous ahead of the date as it clearly meant a lot to him. He sought Paddy (Dominic Brunt)’s advice about what shirt to wear. ‘That one screams office party fun-monkey,’ Paddy said.
He was in a grumpy mood because of his problems with Mandy (Lisa Riley) and grumbled that he didn’t know why Liam was bothering so much. ‘She sees you all day in your “Trust me, I’m a doctor” clothes,’ he pointed out.
So by the time Liam arrived in the Woolpack at the appointed hour, he was already a bit tense. Ella arrived and he greeted her with an awkward and mistimed kiss on the cheek. Cringe levels were already set very high – surely he’d start to relax?
Things were going well on the date and after they’d finished dinner they were talking about how it was hard to know how to behave around each other in the surgery with Manpreet and Wendy watching their every move.
Then Ella asked Liam to ‘say something silly.’ She was not expecting his reply.
‘Sometimes I want to grab hold of you and… suck your fingers,’ he revealed.
As they looked at each other, stunned, he told her, ‘I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I said that.’ He started to explain his thought processes. ‘And I just blurted it out. I’m so sorry. That was incredibly creepy.’
When Liam gets into an awkward moment like this, everything he says seems to make the situation worse. As he excused himself to go to the toilet, he told Ella not to worry, ‘Your fingers are perfectly safe with me.’
The thing is, though, while Liam’s words were very random and definitely a bit creepy, his awkwardness is just so endearing – and, after the initial shock had worn off, Ella seemed to think so too.
