Sonia Fowler struggles to cope with fertility struggle in EastEnders
Whitney Dean's pregnancy causes tensions.
AS she dreams of a family of her own with Reiss Colwell, Sonia Fowler embarked on an IVF journey.
But her fertility worries get the best of her next week in EastEnders and she grows resentful of her pal Whitney Dean.
The beloved nurse played by Natalie Cassidy has been keen to have a child with Reiss (Jonny Freeman), despite the hurdles they’ve had to encounter throughout their relationship.
Once she found out Reiss was sterile following a pregnancy scare that left him convinced she’d been cheating on him, Sonia and her beau agreed to turn to IVF to have a baby.
However, in scenes airing next week on BBC One, Sonia’s journey is weighing heavy on her as she finds out Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) is expecting her own baby.
The fan favourite was called away from Walford by her adoptive mother Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and Whitney took her partner Zack Hudson (James Farrar) along to Milton Keynes, where Bianca lives.
Coming up, viewers are due to find out what the couple have been up to in recent weeks, just as Sonia pays her sister Bianca a visit herself.
Whitney and Zack arrive in Milton Keynes to visit Bianca and are immediately met with discontent from two local children, Britney (Lola Campbell) and Taylor.
Whitney tells Bianca about her pregnancy, but asks her to keep it secret from Sonia.
As Whitney grows increasingly concerned for Britney, she’s later surprised to rock back up Bianca’s home to find Sonia greeting her.
When Whitney is consumed by her worries over Britney, the mother-to-be is hit by a car, prompting Zack, Bianca and Sonia to rush to her aid as she lies semi-conscious on the floor.
Despite the trouble, Sonia and Bianca later manage to have a heart-to-heart about Sonia’s struggles to conceive.
Sonia is then caught brooding as she steps in to look after Lily Slater’s baby Charli, and her yearn for a baby of her own grows.
Later on, Reiss tries to cheer up Sonia, but his over-the-top gestures soon grate on her.
While in the café, Sonia reveals her plight following their fertility struggles and confesses to Reiss that Whitney is pregnant and she feels guilty for the jealousy she holds because of it. R
Reiss suggests that she should start journaling her feelings.
But will it really help her?
Will Sonia ever have the baby she craves?
