EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry discusses Kat Mitchell đť•’ttack story
"This is what this man is capable of."
EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry has discussed next week’s dark scenes, which will see Nish Panesar attack Kat Mitchell.
Nish has begun an unexpected relationship with Kat in recent episodes, but has already revealed how his intentions towards her are far from honourable.
Nish is hoping to use Kat’s impending divorce to Phil to his advantage and will even introduce her to a dodgy divorce lawyer.
Luckily, Kat appears to rumble Nish’s plan in time – and begins to plot against him herself.
However, when the situation gets out of hand, Kat is left fending off an attack from Nish – who has a history of violence towards women.
Explaining Nish’s intentions towards Kat, Navin – who plays Nish – said: “Nish is very pleased with the way this relationship is developing for him. It is going according to plan until later on in the week when the goal post shifts.
“He is very close to it being a triumph for him, and then right at the last minute, things change for him as suddenly he’s faced with another formidable opponent.
“I think initially there was a genuine attraction of two people in similar situations. There was a common ground over which they bonded genuinely.
“But Nish being the manipulative opportunist that he is, saw a wonderful prize at the end of it [Phil’s money and businesses]. I think initially there was an affection that then transformed into an opportunity for him.”
When asked if he’d had to do any research for the scenes where Nish turns violent with Kat, Navin added: “My mum ran a charity for over twenty years for women of domestic abuse, so my mum spent her life protecting people like Kat from people like Nish.
“These are stories and human beings that I guess I grew up with with my mum having to be on call and saving people like this.
“We had a scene a few weeks ago where Nish kicks Kat and her children out of her house. He thinks better of it, but this is what this man is capable of.”
