Emmerdale’s Zoe Henry confirms ‘horrific’ developments that are ‘pretty awful’ for Rhona Goskirk

Rhona’s decision has impacted her entire family

In upcoming Emmerdale episodes, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) has the threat of prison hanging over her head as her court case looms.

Rhona has been charged with kidnap after taking baby Ivy away from the village and hiding out in a rented holiday cottage.

She was desperate not to be separated from the little girl when the baby’s father, Gus (Alan McKenna), announced his intention to move to France with Ivy and she acted on instinct. But when Gus brought the police to the door she was arrested.

Zoe Henry told us how Rhona is feeling as the court date approaches.

‘Desperate, I think,’ she stated.

‘This is last chance saloon. She knows everything hangs on this. She knows she’s probably not got the best case having kidnapped Ivy. It’s not looking good for her and I think she knows that.

‘She’s extremely nervous and anxious to do and say the right thing. The bottom line is she fully believes she is in the right.’

While Rhona’s view of the situation might be clear-cut, for those around her it’s more complex and her other children, April (Amelia Flanagan) and Leo (Harvey Rogerson), have borne the brunt of Rhona’s rash actions.

April, in particular, is angry that Rhona apparently didn’t consider the effect kidnapping Ivy would have on her and her brother. Zoe explained that April’s subsequent behaviour is understandable as she reacts to the situation.

‘Its pretty horrific. April is your average teenager but is really not engaging with Rhona at all, she’s angry, understandably.

From April’s point of view she thinks “You didn’t put us first, you didn’t consider us, you considered your other child but not Leo and me.”’ I can understand why she doesn’t want anything to do with Rhona at that moment.’

Both of her children start behaving in uncharacteristic ways, as a result of the turmoil at home, Zoe told us.

‘April’s being pretty awful. And Leo’s starting to misbehave at school, which I think Rhona feels terrible about because she just hadn’t seen that coming. He’s reacted in a different way which is to take his anger out on other people away from home. Rhona feels pretty wretched about that. It’s all her fault, undeniably so.’

April decides to take some decisive action, and goes off to see Gus on her own, a move that Zoe said does a lot to bring home to Rhona how badly her behaviour has impacted her daughter.

‘I think what it does is bring the situation into focus for her and makes her realise that April does love her, and doesn’t want to lose her, and is feeling desperate and in this desperation has taken matters into her own hands,’ she mused.

‘It’s a double-edged sword because I think there’s part of her that’s relieved to know that April does care, but also desperately sad to know that that’s the lengths she would have gone to.

‘I think, again, there’s a lot of shame and embarrassment and guilt around what Rhona is feeling because of what she’s done and how that permeates out to the rest of the family.’
