Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle breaks down as mum Lisa ‘returns’ on her wedding day

Belle wanted nothing more than her mum to be there on her wedding day

Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) has had a shock blast from the past in tonight’s heartbreaking episode.

After months of fans wondering whether Belle would walk down the aisle with manipulative fiancé Tom King (James Chase), the couple have finally tied the knot.

Emotional scenes have shown Tom berate his love’s wedding dress, branding it ‘cheap’, disrespect the Dingle family name and even push her over onto the floor, causing her to smack her head off the corner of the coffee table.

Further upset followed tonight (February 15th) as after their reception, he lashed out about the events of the day and her family’s oddities, saying he hadn’t had a chance to spend time with her.

There was only one thing on Belle’s mind – a letter written by mum Lisa (Jane Cox) for her daughter before she died.

Following the sad death of actor Steve Halliwell in December last year, neither of Belle’s parents were able to attend her wedding day with the soap writers explaining that Zak was suffering from a bad back and stuck in Scotland.

Zak sent the letter down with Sam (James Hooton) who told his sister that Lisa had put pen to paper as she was dying, knowing she wouldn’t get to spend the day with her.

Cox, who played Lisa for twenty four years, quit the show in 2020 with the character dying of the condition amyloidosis.

Throughout her special day, Belle wanted nothing more than to take in her mum’s final words and broke down when she eventually opened up the envelope as Tom left her alone and sleeping on the sofa after his meltdown.

In a big surprise to viewers, Jane Cox reprised her role to narrate Lisa’s words: ‘‘My dearest Belle’ she began.

‘If you’re reading this it must be your wedding day, and I wish with all my heart I could be there with you,’

‘I wish I couldve met the man you chose to marry, because he must be quite a fella’ she continued.

‘I know you, my bright and beautiful girl, and I know you’ll have chosen well – a kind, good man, who’ll care for you forever, now I no longer can,’

I’ll rest easier knowing you’re so happy. All my love, Mum.’

Poor Lisa couldn’t have been more wrong.

As the realisation set in that she’d made a huge mistake, Belle broke down. Will she be brave enough to speak up to her twisted husband?
