But the two EastEnders icons perhaps have no idea that, while they canoodle in secret, the fate of both of their families is up in the air.

Denise Fox (portrayed by Diane Parish) has been unravelling at the speed of light, consumed by her guilt over the murder of Keanu Taylor.

The hairstylist has been concerned that she may be caught up with the truth after losing her necklace in the hunk’s final resting place, underneath Kathy Beale’s café.

Coming up next week on BBC One, the venue is set to reopen in Bridge Street but Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) is furious to find out that there was a leak and part of the floor is wet.

Denise is beside herself and reasons that she must confess before seeking solace at the community centre with Pastor Clayton who encourages her to unburden herself.

Back at home, Denise prepares to write a letter to her husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), completely unaware that he has another woman on his mind.

In recent months, the police detective has been getting closer to Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) as the pair settled down into their role as grandparents for baby Charli.

But by bringing both of their families together for the sake of Ricky Branning and Lily Slater’s child, Stacey managed to add another Branning man to her collection.

Stacey famously married Jack’s nephew Bradley and embarked on an affair with the latter’s father Max, Jack’s brother.

In recent scenes of the London-based program, Stacey and Jack slid into bed together and the copper insisted he was no longer interested in saving his fragile marriage with Denise.

Next week, while Denise’s downward spiral continues and she’s clearly in need of help after hallucinating Keanu, Jack wakes up at No.31 after having spent the night with Stacey.

He arrives home to a despondent Denise and decides to lie by claiming he slept on the sofa – and his drained wife willingly accepts.

Will Jack tell Denise what he’s been up to?

Could they choose to separate?

Or will Denise’s frail mental health convince him to stay by her side?

Will Denise ever tell the truth about Keanu’s death?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
