Emmerdale spoilers: Cain Dingle challenges Liam Cavanagh over how many women he’s slept with after Chas discovery

It was a challenging day for Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) in Wednesday (January 17)’s Emmerdale, as she had an appointment at the breast clinic to investigate the lump she recently found.

Chas was naturally terrified, particularly in light of the fact that her mum, Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter), had died of breast cancer in 2022. She didn’t want anyone to know where she was going and told Gail Loman (Rachael Gill-Davis) that she had an appointment to sort out a back problem.

At the clinic, she had various tests and now has to wait for the results. At one point she broke down and the consultant (former Holby City star Rebecca Grant) tried to reassure her that the lump didn’t necessarily mean cancer, and if it did they’d caught it early.

The same reassurance was repeated later by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). He’s the person who discovered the lump after sleeping with Chas and is so far the only person who knows what’s going on.

His attempt to be comforting didn’t really help as Chas is already fearing the worst. She told him that she didn’t want any of her family to know until she knew what she was dealing with.

At that moment Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) appeared, looking for Eve Dingle (Bella James) to invite her over to his house for dinner with his boys. He immediately spotted that something was going on with Liam and Chas as they both looked uncomfortable and guilty like they were hiding something.

Liam cracked under the pressure and, deciding that a bit of truth was better than a lie, blurted out that he and Chas were sleeping together.

‘Once,’ Chas corrected him.

Liam was obviously just a tiny bit scared of how Cain – who might be Liam’s friend but is also very frightening – would react to the idea that Liam was sleeping with his sister.

‘I couldn’t care less,’ Cain said. ‘Who’d have thought it!’ replied a clearly relieved Liam.

On the way out Cain had a thought and turned back to Liam. ‘How many women have you slept with now?’ he asked. It’s a fair question and the approximate answer is a fair number, and that’s only the ones we know about.

After he’d gone, Liam apologised for embarrassing Chas, but she was just glad he hadn’t said anything about her health issues and reminded him again to keep quiet. Telling her he was always there if she needed to talk, Liam told her to ‘Try not to worry.’

Easier said than done for poor Chas, though. On her own, she picked up a photo of her mum and wondered what the future might hold.
