Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona Goskirk faces the most agonising goodbye in sad scenes
She knew it was coming
Rhona (Zoe Henry) has been absolutely kidding herself that somehow, she’d get to keep baby Ivy, now that even Marlon (Mark Charnock) has bonded with her in Emmerdale. But one simple phone call is about to shatter her world.
Despite everyone’s protestations, Rhona has allowed herself to get closer and closer to baby Ivy, feeling more like the infant’s mum as time has gone on.
To begin with, Mary discouraged Rhona’s emotional attachment to Ivy. But eventually, after Gus did a runner and left the family to cope, spending so much time with the baby led Mary to feel unexpected feelings as well. And in a turn of events no one saw coming, even Marlon caved.
But just as Rhona starts enjoying her new perfect little family, she receives a call from Gus – he’s ready to resume daddie duties.
She knew it was coming
Unprepared for the call, savvy Rhona works quickly to convince him not to come back while he isn’t completely ready. In a move that does not look good on her, Rhona resorts to manipulative tactics to block Gus’ return.
Actress Zoe Henry revealed to Metro.co.uk: ‘She’s put him off, really. She’s played on his insecurities because he’s said, “I’ve been seeing a counsellor and they said I’ve got to be 100% strong.” And she’s like, “Yeah, and if you’re not you’ll just set yourself right back again and you’ve got to put Ivy first.”’.
She convinces him he’s not to come back, then keeps the conversation to herself.
Rhona is moved when she catches Marlon bonding with and cooing over Ivy, which only confirms to her she’s made the right move.
But caught up in the moment, Rhona reality checks herself and confesses to Marlon that she’s been in touch with Gus, justifying her delaying tactics to her shocked husband.
Mary (Louise Jamieson) gives her another dose of reality – she warns her daughter that Ivy will be leaving soon – she has no legal right to her and it’s time to say her goodbyes.
Panicked by the fear of loss, and ignoring everyone once again, Rhona visits Ethan (Emile John) for advice on gaining custody.
But everyone is caught off guard when Gus arrives, unannounced. Rhona is stunned and at a loss when she’s faced with the lies she’s told her family as Gus reveals the truth behind their communications. It’s fresh betrayal for Marlon.
When asked about Rhona’s next move, Zoe teased: ‘It’s fairly drastic [laughs]. We haven’t got those scripts yet so I haven’t read them but she goes all out.’ More heartbreak to come, then eh?
