Heath Hope died during a joyride gone wrong and his twin sister Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling) has been blamed for the tragedy.

Prior to the accident that took her brother’s life, Cathy had been seen behind the wheel after instigating the trip to Hotten by stealing Wendy Posner’s car on New Year’s Eve.

The volatile teen dragged Heath and their pal Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) into her plan, making her the perfect culprit.

However, while she was questioned by the police, Cathy affirmed that Angelica had been driving the car before the crash, thus causing Heath’s death.

Due to her troubled past in the Dales and temper tantrums, mostly caused by her PMDD, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) has had a hard time believing his daughter and he made the decision to stay away from her.

Coming up next week on ITV, Bob sticks to his gun as he emotionally tells Wendy (Susan Cookson) that he’s refusing to see Cathy in order to protect her from himself.

The following day, Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) is livid when Bob continues to avoid a heartbroken Cathy and she gives him both barrels, telling him he needs to step up and support his daughter.

Clearly in torment, Bob mulls over Brenda’s words but he later makes a devastating decision.

It’s the day of Heath’s funeral and Bob’s distraught to think Cathy’s still lying as he crumbles at the prospect of the day.

As the funeral looms over the entire village, stirring up old memories.

Wendy tries to console a distraught Bob but he decides that he can’t face today and refuses to attend the funeral, preferring to be alone with his grief.

Pollard breaks the news to Cathy that Bob won’t be attending the funeral.

Although she’s gutted, Cathy puts her feelings aside, determined to do right by her brother.

The village turns out to pay their respects to Heath while Bob’s crippled by his all-consuming grief and he backtracks, deciding to attend Heath’s funeral at the last minute.

Cathy begins to buckle under the emotional weight of seeing Heath’s coffin but is grateful to find a supportive Bob by her side.

Later, Cathy’s broken to realise that Bob still doesn’t believe her and she stands her ground, stating that she won’t move back home if Bob can’t believe her.

Her friends support her as an emotional Bob exits, gutted to be back to square one with his daughter.

Meanwhile, in the graveyard, Angelica is overwhelmed with guilt.

Will she finally confess that she really was driving the car the day Heath died?

Or will she let Cathy take the fall?

Viewers of the Yorkshire-based drama have expected a twist in the gut-wrenching storyline as both Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) were on the road while the three teens were trying to get to Hotten.

The pair have embarked on a car-stealing scheme, leading soap fans to believe they may have had something to do with Cathy, Heath and Angelica’s car crash outside the village.

Is there really more to Heath’s death?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
